I wasn’t convinced by the colour description vs image of swatch at all and rightly so. On the few occasions that I did set it (out of pure habit), I found that it looked somewhat dry, especially as the day wore on, and you can tell that you’re wearing makeup (which I’ve found has started to happen even with my Urban Decay Naked Skin which I’ve ALWAYS set).įinding the right colour was a tad difficult as I was going off online, animated swatches (as opposed to ‘on the skin’ swatches). It stays put all day without moving or creasing. Personally, for me, I don’t have to set this concealer and that doesn’t ever really happen. And when I say matte, I don’t mean a dry or chalky matte. It’s extremely light and sets quickly to a soft yet smooth, matte finish that is completely flawless. You might perceive that something with such full coverage, that it’s texture surely must be very thick and heavy. One thing I love about the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer is that it maintains it’s ridiculous level of coverage throughout, from the moment I place it onto the skin and begin to blend it out (preferably with my ring finger and finished off with a beauty blender – many, including the aforementioned, will lose a tiny bit of it’s coverage at this point) to the moment I take it off my face at the end of the day – a good at least 8 hours after. They, however, have just been ‘owned’ by the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer. Those who are familiar with these will know that both have a good level of coverage and are pretty decent in their overall offering which is why I’ve used them consistently over the years. I’ve been an avid user of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (Light for under my eyes and Medium-Light Neutral for my face), and before that, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (Custard for under my eyes and Macadamia/Ginger for my face). It’s always easier to start off with less product and build up, rather than the other way round (there’s just no going back and frankly I don’t want to waste such precious product).Ĭoverage is unrivalled full-stop. I tend to ‘dab’ the wand onto the back of my hand (using it as a palette to mix the colours) and pick up the product from there. Trust me, a little goes a very long way with this concealer. That’s far too much product, for me personally. Many people like it but I’m rather indifferent to it as I don’t apply it straight to the face. The packaging is rather chunky compared to its peers but that’s because it houses the fattest doe-foot wand applicator I’ve ever come across. If there was ever a product I’ve wanted to get my hands on so desperately (aside from the Master palette by Mario and the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette – and I totally blame YouTube – #youtubemademedoit), it’s this. It’s not like I live anywhere remotely near an ULTA store so I’ve had to stalk the Tarte website sporadically (but have never been quite fast enough – you snooze, you lose right?). Finally, finally, FINALLY managed to get my hands on the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer after being out of stock consistently for absolute months since it’s launch last year.

Stop At: Mozartplatz, Mozartpl., 5020 Salzburg, Austria And while the freemiumization of a franchise means it will be free, it does not necessarily mean it will be a better experience. This is a typical itinerary for this product While Virtual City Playground is certainly a competent freemium offering, players of the original game will likely be put off by the severe changes that were made to the core mechanics and gameplay. There is a ton more I would love to learn about the history of the making of these cities now, but that falls outside the scope of this book so now I am hoping for a volume 2 that might dive into such things. It would have been cool to see more insights from developers on a greater amount of the included games and maybe concept art of the city to accompany the stylized renditions. While I have enjoyed my read of Virtual Cities, even the cities from games I don’t play, the whole experience has left me with a few thoughts. The technology and genre of each title have likely played into this viewpoint for sure, but it has been fun to go back and take a second look. A lot of these locations have always been little more than backdrops to me, while others I had no problem as seeing as living places. After reading through a selection of entries all I wanted to do was go and roam the streets of that particular location and take it in from a new perspective I hadn’t ever considered before. A number of these design insights segments have information from their original developers, which is always a welcome read! What I personally think Virtual Cities does best with its selection of cities is make you want to go and visit them. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Complete Collectionįollowing each description is a section on design insights, explaining some of the concepts behind what makes these cities work and function within their respective games. The entries for City 17, Clock Town, Tarsonis, and The Citadel were my first stops, with each offering new takes on familiar locations! Each of the in-universe descriptions is accompanied by Maria Kallikaki’s illustrations to further help convey the information on hand. The full list of cities is covered in the table of contents at the start of the book allowing readers to dive right into their personal favorites. There is such a great range of games covered, spanning 35 years of gaming history from the iconic ZX Spectrum up to the modern-day of Xbox One, PS4, and Switch. Then there are the takes on Raccoon City and Silent Hill which offer a completely unique spin compared to some of the other entries, that being a post-apocalyptic perspective. Virtual City Playground is completely off kilter from the original game.īoth of them have a fun story given to them thanks to Dimopoulos’ writing. While this approach doesn’t seem too complicated for cities like Whiterun from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (which has tons of flushed out in-game lore and is fully explorable to players), covering a beat-em-up city like Metro City from Final Fight or racing backdrop Olympic City from Need For Speed Underground are a different story. Each of the 45 cities covered throughout the book is described from an in-universe perspective. If you were lucky enough to get into the crowd-funded version you are getting something that looks altogether different and I am jealous of you all! The information contained within the pages of Virtual Cities is conveyed in an interesting way and one I didn’t think would come off as good as it did. Just a side note here, my impressions are all based upon the retail version of Virtual Cities that is available as of November 10, 2020. Compared to some other hardcover books I have bought recently, Virtual Cities feels very premium, which is exactly how I like all of my video game related items! Cyber Manhunt For this hardcover release, the 214 pages have a good thickness and feel with a strong binding holding it all together. A short bio for Dimopoulos and Kallikaki can be found just beneath this, giving us insight into the minds that brought this book to life. Moving on to the back cover we have a number of illustrations of the cities contained within the book and a nice outline of what it is about. As most of you all hopefully know by now, I love it when a cover gives an excellent representation of what it contains inside and Virtual Cities does exactly that! Virtual City Playground HD proves that not every game should go freemium. The subtext for this being a video game atlas is also proudly displayed along with author Konstantinos Dimopoulos’ name. Yes I know, you aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover, but when it looks good I want to take a minute to appreciate it! The base cover is pure white and accented with a red and black overhead map with the Virtual Cities title taking center stage. Read More: The 50 Most Influential Reality TV Seasons of All Time “No one really saw Teresa emerging as the star of the show,” King says, “but because of that exchange, we all knew that Teresa was going to have a long career in this business.” At that point in the franchise, with only the Orange County, New York, and Atlanta shows up and running, there had never been a truly memorable, standout moment of drama from a Housewives season. The table-flip moment changed not only the course of Giudice’s career as a reality star, but also the trajectory of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, all the Housewives spin-offs, and even reality TV more broadly. King describes the moment as so cinematic that it felt like something out of a Scorsese film. According to King, what the finished episode didn’t show was that after the book was placed on the table (and after he crawled out from underneath it), the other women refused to talk about it for 20 minutes-until Staub, annoyed with the avoidance, forced the subject and incited the table flip heard ‘round the world. King handed the book to her and set the events in motion-a prime example of the behind-the-scenes orchestration that goes into reality TV moments that are meant to play out as spontaneous and organic. King, then an associate producer on the show, has a unique perspective on the incident: he had been underneath the table in question earlier the same night, holding onto the book for Staub, because she was wearing a dress too tight to conceal it. Read More: Reality TV Has Reshaped Our World, Whether We Like It or Not “Think about it: 13 years later, it’s still something we’re talking about.” “I knew that it was going to be cemented in our pop-culture history,” King says. More than a decade later, he says he knew in that moment that the scene would make a lasting impact. She shoved her hands beneath the table and flipped it, screaming, “Prostitution whore!” at her castmate.Ĭarlos King, now the CEO of Kingdom Reign Entertainment and a longtime producer of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and The Real Housewives of Atlanta, was on set when it happened. When a heated argument about the origin of the rumors broke out, Giudice reached her boiling point. The cast’s villain, Danielle Staub, confronted the other women for gossiping about her past by placing a copy of Cop Without a Badge, a damning book about her ex-husband, on the table. Giudice, who had been depicted for most of the season as a sweet and devoted wife, mother, and satellite to the Manzo family around whom much of the drama revolved, was in the middle of hosting a dinner party at a local restaurant. And no moment has shaped the Housewives universe more definitively than when Teresa Giudice flipped a fully loaded dinner table in a fit of rage in the 2009 season 1 finale of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.Īlthough the table-flip moment has become an indelible part of the blueprint followed by many aspiring reality stars who lean into belligerence as a way to get attention-one previously popularized by the women of Bad Girls Club and confrontational daytime talk shows like Jerry Springer-it came as a truly shocking twist during the season finale of a franchise extension that viewers were still unsure about. With its ostentatious display of wealth, its conflict-addicted cast members, and its petty yet over-the-top storylines, Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise embodies the flashy melodrama that dominates the contemporary reality TV landscape. Dr Miller points out that when the septic system is receiving water only, containing a very low mineral content, and not receiving the mineral salts from the backwash cycle, this condition “might result in swelling and dispersion of clay and lowered hydraulic conductivity in the absorption field”. Fred P Miller, Professor of Soil Science, Department of Agronomy, University of Maryland indicates this same conclusion. The University of Wisconsin and the National Sanitation Foundation reports clearly indicate that when the sodium content from the softener regeneration cycle is discharged into the soil via a septic system along with other salts such as calcium, magnesium, and iron the result is an improvement in the soil’s percolation rather than a detriment.Ī letter from Dr. The calcium and magnesium in softener regeneration wastes contribute to good air and water movement (improved soil percolation) through the septic system drainage field. In fact, they are lower in volume and rate of addition than wastes from automatic washers. the volume of waste from a water softener that is added to the septic tank is not of sufficient volume to cause any deleterious hydraulic load problems. The addition of sodium to a septic system by use of soft water actually has beneficial effects on the digestion of wastes by bacteria. This conclusion is supported by the Ten States’ “ Recommended Standards for Individual Sewage Systems” The states have concluded that even in Montmorillonite clay soils, the disposal of brine wastes from water softening equipment does not have a significant effect upon the permeability of soils suitable for soil absorption systems. It has not caused damage or hazards but it has provided convenience and economic savings to many homeowners. The allowance of water treatment system discharges to hundreds of thousands of septic tank systems is practically universal now. These studies conclusively show that water softener waste effluents cause no problems for septic tanks. Environmental Protection Agency reviewed this research report, and an expert in on-site waste treatment wrote October 1993 that he “does not believe that the conclusions of the earlier study would change since the chemistry and physics of soils have not. “ He also goes on to say that he knows this work to remain scientifically excellent“. It was at that time that numerous regulatory agencies were contemplating restrictions on the discharge of water softener wastes to private sewage disposal systems. This research was completed in the late 1970s. WQA has research reports by the University of Wisconsin and the National Sanitation Foundation on septic tanks and water softeners. Studies have shown that water softener regeneration wastes do not interfere with the septic tank system drain field soil percolation, but because of the polyvalent water hardness cations in the regeneration discharges improve soil percolation, particularly in fine-textured soils. It is not true that water softener regeneration discharges pose a problem to septic systems or to the leach field. Here are the answers to that question and the effects of using a water softener with a septic system. As they went they shared the good news of Jesus Christ. When a person or group is made to suffer this is called “ persecution“.īecause of the great persecution, followers of Jesus left Jerusalem in great numbers and went to live in other regions. He even went from house to house dragging off men and women and putting them in prison. After that event Saul seems to go on a rampage against the followers of Jesus in an attempt to destroy the church. The latter believes there is another way but Vez'nan insists they no longer have a choice. In the end, Vez'nan rides Beresad the black dragon to the elf lands in the south and meets with Magnus Spellbane. It is revealed that the "greater threat" is known as The Overseer, who created the Unblinded Cult in its own bid to conquer the known world. In the level packs, he sends the general to deal with threats to his newly acquired power. After many long battles, Vez'nan succeeds in his campaign at last, only to enter the basement of Denas's castle to supposedly fight an even greater evil, which seems to be the real motivation behind Vez'nan's actions. This time, he is a protagonist villain since the player is, despite being a general as usual, on his side this time. In Vengeance, As a result of a pact made between Vez'nan and Oloch, the former escapes into the mortal world ready to try conquering Lineria again. Most prominently out of all of them, Lord Malagar, the game's central antagonist and one of Vez'nan's most devout followers, had physically taken his staff (which strangely paled in comparison to Umbra's dark power) to summon Umbra, the game's main antagonist, in an attempt to aid him in ruling the world. However, he has much posthumous influence as, with his death, many evils rose. In Frontiers, Vez'nan has no appearance whatsoever. He escapes from his prison eventually with help from Moloch's little He later appears in Pandemonium, his soul in a cage next to Moloch's throne. After defeating him a second time, he dies. After taking enough damage, Vez'nan would shapeshift into a large demonic form, which moves at a faster pace and breathes fire. In his base form, Vez'nan can use a spell to disable the player's towers, summon demons, and drain the souls of soldiers to kill them instantly. Vez'nan, like all enemies, first appears from the entrance of the map and tries to cross the entire map to get to the exit, with the player needing to stop him before then. In the first Kingdom Rush game, Vez'nan is the final boss. When he is selected, he can be seen with the corrupted Tear at the Shrine of Elynie during the Heroic and Iron Challenges alongside some demon minions. Even after this, Vez'nan is still selectable in Origins' level packs. Before he can do this, the Tear's influence gets to him and causes his descent into evil and future exile from Lineria. After the defeat of the Spider Goddess, Denas, then the prince of Lineria, declares that the corrupted Tear of Elynie must be destroyed and Vez'nan offers to do it himself. He is selectable as a paid hero who fights alongside the elves. |
